KVSonline and KVS/4

KVSonline works together with KVS/4 to provide your teachers and students with access to their course information. Before using KVSonline, it is important to ensure that your KVS/4 installation is up-to-date and that you have the necessary licenses.

Required KVS version. KVSonline requires at least version 4.2.12 of KVS/4. Any school with a current KVS/4 support contract can download and install this update for free.

Teacher module. In order to connect teachers with the database, your school must have the teacher module of KVS/4. Without this module, teachers cannot access the system.

Client licenses. Your KVS/4 installation includes a certain number of client licenses. While you can install KVS/4 on as many computers as you like, the number of client licenses limits the number of clients that can use the system at the same time. Since KVSonline also connects to your KVS/4 server, KVSonline occupies one client license.

KVSonline Pricing

Starter package: The easy and low-risk way to get started with KVSonline. For a Fr. 130.-- setup fee your school receives unlimited access to KVSonline for three months. During this "get acquainted" time, no usage fees apply. Your staff can experiment with KVSonline and, after the first month or two, you will be able see your school's usage profile.

After the starter package, KVSonline is billed by usage*. After the starter package, you can continue with KVSonline by purchasing a 3-month or 12-month usage package. The amount you purchase will be credited to your account, and you can check your school's usage anytime online. The available packages are:

Accessing KVSonline

The KVSonline homepage is www.kvsonline.com. Inlingua schools in Switzerland have a special portal to the system through inlingua.kvsonline.ch. This portal is designed to be accessed through the inlingua Switzerland website.

* A brief explanation of how usage is calculated. Usage is based on the time spent actively using the system. A teacher or student who logs in quickly to check when the next course meets will use the minimum of 1 unit.

A teacher who logs in and spends half-an-hour looking at reports, printing class cards and closing courses - intensively using the system - may result in a charge of 15 or 20 units. When all teachers at inlingua Basel were given access to the system during the six-month test phase, their total usage was approximately 1400 units per month.

Note that just staying logged in, with KVSonline displayed on the screen, does not cost anything at all - only active use of the system is counted.
