General Options

This window defines a number of options that affect how KVS operates.

Lesson Length

Specifies the standard time-period used to plan course and bill students. For example, if you define a standard lesson length of 45 minutes, then you will be presented with default meetings of 45 minutes, 90 minutes, 135 minutes, and so forth. When students purchase courses, their bills will reflect the number of lessons - here the number of 45-minute-intervals - that they are buying. Lesson length is an option that can only be changed in set-up mode - be sure you have it right before you exit set-up mode.

Teacher/Student auto-logout

Teachers and students can log into KVS to check their schedules and see other relevant information. If a teacher or student forgets to log out of KVS, they will be automatically logged out after a period of inactivity. These options specify how long KVS waits before logging the teacher or student out of the system.

Default lessons per booking

This option specifies the default used for the number of lessons when a new booking is entered.

Course counseling tolerance

In the course counselling window, KVS recommends courses for a student based on the course level and the student's level of competence. This option specifies how much difference is allowed in the levels, before KVS no longer considers the course a good recommendation.

Time bonuses as percentages

Many schools pay teachers a bonus for working undesirable times. This option determines whether the bonuses specified are flat amounts, or percentages of the teachers' salaries.

Teachers can add students

Some schools may want teacher to be able to add students to participants, other may not (especially if teachers receive bonuses on a per student basis). This option determines whether teachers can or cannot add students to participant lists.

Correspondence language

This defines the default correspondence language, which will be pre-selected when creating a new address.

Working directory

This options specifies where KVS saves all printed documents that it generates, such as bills. Also, all templates for documents and reports must be in the Templates subdirectory of the working directory.

To-Do list

These two options specify how far in advance KVS reminds you to process renewals. The reminders will appear on the list of pending administrative tasks that is shown when KVS starts.

Setup mode

This option is only ever used once. When you first install KVS, it is in a static mode called "setup mode". After you have completed initial data entry, you uncheck this box. The box can never again be checked.

The first day on which events will take place, students will be debited, teachers credited, etc. is the day after you exit setup mode. For example, if you want to begin using KVS on Monday, you should exit setup mode on Sunday evening.
