Forms
of AddressA "form of address" is the first line of a letter, for example "Dear Mr. Smith,". Forms of address differ amongst languages and according to gender. Gender here is a more general concept than male/female - one may wish to have a special form of address for couples, for companies or for people whose gender you don't know.
One should define a form of address for each language/gender combination.
When defining a form of address, one uses special symbols to tell KVS where to insert the person's name and title. You can use the following symbols:
| Symbol | Replaced with |
| *t* | Title |
| *fn* | First Name |
| *ln* | Last Name |
Example: If you want the following line to appear on a letter to Mr. John Smith
Dear Mr. Smith,
you would enter the form of address
Dear *t* *ln*,
This assumes that you enter "Mr." as title for every male person in the address window. You can avoid this by entering the form of address as follows:
Dear Mr. *t* *ln*,
Then you only need to enter exceptional titles such as Dr., Prof., etc in the title field of the address form.
