This document lists the changes made to each version of KVS. There are three categories of changes:
Version 4.2.6 (18 August 2008) Minor. Added "extra" fields to the student renewal report. Only extra fields that have been names are available. Minor. Added the course note field to the class card report. Bug. Fixed an error in the teacher vacation report. Bug. Fixed an error with the toolbar buttons that create bookings (error introduced in KVS 4.2.5). Version 4.2.5 (21 June 2008) Major. Added the ability to choose the template to use each time invoice-letters are printed. This is useful for schools that wish to send different letters for companies and individuals, for different course types, etc. Minor. Added new markers for invoices and invoice letters (see handbook for a complete list). Minor. Added new general option to control how documents based on bookings are named: by the ID of the billing address (as in previous versions of KVS) or - new - by transaction number or by the name of the person in the billing address. Minor. Added default columns for first- and last-names to various student reports. Bug. Fixed an error in the daily plan, where the teacher availability (shown as a hashed background) did not scroll properly. Bug. Fixed an error in the daily plan, where a room deleted from a regularly-scheduled event would be reset the next time the event was modified. Bug. Fixed small problems with report filters: under certain circumstances, filters for boolean and date fields did not work correctly. Version 4.2.4 (1 March 2008) Major. This update substantially improves performance, especially for larger schools and for schools using KVSonline. Version 4.2.3 (14 January 2008) Bug. Corrected an error in the financial earnings report that led to small inaccuracies. Version 4.2.2 (5 December 2007) Bug. Student names containing an apostrophe (') are now handled correctly. Version 4.2.0 (29 June 2007) Major. Added start and end-dates to course meetings. This allows schools to effectively plan the end-date of courses at the time a course is created. Major. Added "recurrence" to courses meetings. This allows a meeting to take place every 2 weeks, every 3 weeks or every 4 weeks. Major. Added "equipment" that can be reserved along with course meetings or individual course events. The school defines a list of available equipment (anything from projectors to cars), and KVS tracks which equipment is schedule for which meetings and events. The daily plan includes a new view to display which equipment is in use where, and at what time. Minor. Users of the "accounting interface can is now possible to enter a separate account associated with each subject, in order to keep track of turnover per subject. Bug. KVS 4.0.18 introduced a bug, whereby teachers could print any "class card". This version once again restricts teachers to printing "class cards" only for courses that they teach.
Version 4.1.1 (23 March 2007) Bug. Introducing the unique serial numbers in KVS 4.1.0 caused a problem with the automatic course renewals. This update corrects the problem.
Version 4.1.0 (23 March 2007) Major. Added the new document type "Contract". The contract is printed directly from the booking window, and can be used to print a summary of the booking for the student or company representative to sign. Major. Added unique serial numbers to payments. Invoices and receipts have separate number sequences. There are corresponding accounting options as well as a new report. Bug. Corrected an error in the salary report (introduced in 4.0.18), where the teacher name appeared in place of the course name. Minor. The reminders windows displays faster. Note that the reminders window is always slower at Accounting and Management levels, due to the necessity to check all teacher salaries for problems. Minor. Added color coding to many reports, so that course names are displayed with the color of their subject. Minor. Added "active" checkbox to most reports, so that inactive items are by default not available.
Version 4.0.18 (8 February 2007) Bug. Corrected minor internal errors when creating the reminders list. Bug. KVS warned the user before saving changes to a "posted" booking, but then saved the changes anyway. The user can now cancel the save process. Minor. Speed-up of the archiving process - for large schools, the process may be up to 10 times faster than before. Minor. All teacher reports now include optional columns for the last-name and first-name of the teacher. Minor. The teachers' interface formerly allowed teachers to view the daily plan for their own events. This meant that they could only see one day at at time. The event-summary button on the daily plan now allows teachers to print a summary for several days. Minor. Prevent the user from clicking on a new date for the daily plan, before the currently selected date has finished displaying, to avoid an annoying error message. Minor. Added Portuguese as a possible correspondence language. Minor. On days with no events, previous versions of KVS searched for events to archive once each hour. Beginning with this version, the archiving process will run only once, just as on any other day.
Version 4.0.17 (8 December 2006) Bug. Corrected an error in the company attendance report. Bug. Corrected an error in the "groups" window.
Version 4.0.16 (28 November 2006) Bug. As documented in the FAQ, there is a bug in a Microsoft component that can lead to data in one field of a form not being saved. Microsoft apparently has no plans to correct the error. This update implements an internal workaround to solve the problem. Minor. Previously, the passwords for individuals (used for teacher and student logins) were stored in the database in plain text, even though they were not visible through the KVS interface. As of KVS 4.0.16, these passwords are stored in encrypted form, using a one-way encryption algorithm.
Version 4.0.15 (19 October 2006) Bug. In the booking window, the billing and correspondence address were reversed. This was only a display problem - the addresses were stored and used correctly. Bug. In the student overview report, the cancellation status is now shown correctly. Minor. The course overview report now also includes course material.
Version 4.0.14 (25 July 2006) Minor. Corrected an error handling teacher names containing apostrophes (e.g., O'Brian). Minor. Prohibit the deletion of bookings (requested by schools where bookings were accidentally deleted). Minor. When students are manually added to an attendance list, they are now "present" by default. Minor. Added a warning when a new person is entered with exactly the same name as an existing person. Version 4.0.13 (30 May 2006) The compiled and uploaded version 4.0.12 was damaged. Version 4.0.13 contains no functional changes, but is simply recompiled and re-issued.
Version 4.0.12 (24 May 2006) Minor. Show the teacher's name on the teacher control panel, so that it is clear who is logged in. Minor. Improvements to validation and default values. Version 4.0.11 (6 May 2006) Minor. Added an option on the daily plan, whereby courses can be specially marked (with a diagonal line), if all students are in renewal or out of credit. Minor. Added an option on some reports, to restrict the selection list to active entries only. Bug. Corrected an error whereby new group members could be added to the wrong group. Versions 4.0.5 through 4.0.10 Minor. A series of small maintenance releases, based on initial feedback from KVS/4 customers. No significant changes to functionality - these releases fixed things like translation errors, misplaced labels, and other minor interface issues. Version 4.0.4 (1 January 2006) Major. The first official release of KVS/4. KVS/4 is a major update to KVS that includes too many new features to list here! For further information, please look at the KVS/4 handbook. Version 3.6.1 (4 February 2005) Minor. Course cancellations are now sorted by course
and student. Minor. For large schools, opening registers for
bookings, students, etc. (which may contain thousands of entries) can
take several seconds. When one only wants to add a new record, it is
unnecessary to open the entire register. As of this version, pressing
the new-booking buttons opens a empty register containing only pending
bookings. Minor. Corrected the Italian translation
for the new features introduced in version 3.6.0. Bug. There was a problem with the automatic entry of
bookings through the renewals/extensions list. The same problem affected
automatic entry of bookings for students with negative balances, and for
closing semesters. These have all been corrected. Bug. A compilation error causes KVS 3.6.0 to crash when setting the lessons/week of a course. Version 3.6.0 (28 December 2004) Numerous small changes have been made throughout the system - most of which users will not notice. Notable changes are listed below. Major. KVS now tracks many types of additional information on students and teachers. For example, you can track which training courses teachers have attended, which examinations students have taken, and much more. This is an enhancement of the KVS reporting module. Minor. Additional markers are now available to place
reference information onto invoices and cover letters. These are the
markers **RefEmail** (student's e-mail address) and **RefExtra**
(reflecting a new "extra" field in the address window - usable for whatever
purpose the school desires). Minor. Many schools that use the feature "students
always on attendance list" in order to do retroactive billing. KVS now
allows the user to set an end-date, after which the students will no
longer appear in the course. This in turn allows the class-cards,
reports and attendance lists to show when the student is no longer
expected to attend the course. Minor. Added a column for "course type" in the student
overview report. Bug. Corrected an error in teacher availability whereby two intervals on the same day were sometimes combined even when they did not overlap. Version 3.5.15 (30 August 2004) Minor. When the daily plan is displayed by teacher, the
availability of the teachers is shown in the background. Minor. Inactive events on the daily plan are shown
behind all other active, non-closed events, but in front of all closed
events. Bug. Corrected an error whereby - in unusual cases - trailing blanks were deleted from student and course names only after dependent information such as bookings or meetings had been entered.. Version 3.5.14 Interim version, released to selected customers. Version 3.5.13 (15 May 2004) Major. The KVS interface now supports Spanish. Version 3.5.12 (28 February 2004) Minor. Added a new marker (**CourseName**),
which is replaced with the name of the course in templates. This is in
addition to the existing marker (**CourseInfo**). Minor. When class-cards are printed from the main report menu, KVS adds three empty columns to
allow for additional students. These columns are not added when class
cards are printed from the course window or by teachers. Minor. Display purchased course-material in the student-card. Version 3.5.11 (5 January 2004) Bug. Corrected an error whereby only the first invoice of a selected series would be printed.. Version 3.5.10 (1 December 2003) Minor. When viewing the daily plan by subject,
inactive teachers are included only if they are scheduled for an event. Minor. Added ability to search on the note field
of bookings, in the booking register. Minor. For Swiss VESR invoices, added two new
invoice markers for the name of the processing bank (**bankname**) and its
address (**bankaddress**). Bug. The action-register for printing invoices now
includes course-fees in the booking-total displayed. Bug. Semester course renewals are no longer included when one selects "all" variable course renewals. Version 3.5.9 (24 September 2003) Minor. Added new markers for cover letters,
invoices and receipts for the start-date of the booking, and the booking
note. Minor. Improved the accuracy of the earnings
report. Bug. Corrected an error whereby two people simultaneously entering bookings could be allocated the same booking number, thereby forcing one person to re-enter their data. Version 3.5.8 (5 August 2003) Bug. Corrected an error whereby inactive students could appear on certain reports. Version 3.5.7 (6 June 2003) Major.
Support the Abacus accounting software
(Switzerland). Major.
A course booking can now be associated with multiple payments. This means,
for example, that a student can pay in installments. Associated with this
enhancement, it is now possible to define and assess course fees. Major. KVS can account for commuting time between
various locations. If a school offers courses in various locations, course
planning must allow time for a teacher to travel from one location to
another. If insufficient time has been allowed, the daily plan notes a
"commuting conflict". You can also set the reimbursement (salary
and expenses) that teachers receive for commuting. Major. Improved bonus system that allows the user to
define any number of bonuses for each course type. Courses take the
course-type bonuses as a default, but each course can be changed
individually. Major. Standard reports are now much more flexible: the
user can easily choose the data to display, decide which data columns to display or hide,
and which titles to
sort by. In addition, many new reports have been defined, based on
customer requests. Minor. KVS now offers an address-export function.
This is useful, for example, when sending out mailings to your students,
customers, or teachers. Minor. Several new reports, based on customer requests. Version 3.4.3 (22 April 2003) Minor. Corrected misleading differences between reports and the list of students on the renewal list. Version 3.4.2 (7 Februar 2003) Major. The KVS interface is now also in Italian. Minor. Substantially increased the speed of the daily
"periodic maintenance". Minor. Many installations have reported problems with the Microsoft Calendar Control (MSCAL.OCX) used by KVS. This has now been replaced by our own calendar control. Version 3.4.0 (3 January 2003) Major. Added "shortcut" buttons to speed the
entry of bookings, new students, new teachers, etc. Major. Added the
ability to write letters and send e-mail to any entry in the
address list. Letters are template-based, and any number of templates may
be created. Major. Simplified installation
procedure when installing KVS in demo-mode. Major. Allow sales of fractional numbers of lessons.
For example, if a course has an unusual meeting length (say 75 minutes,
instead of a usual 60 minutes), and a student wants to attend 10 events,
one must be able to sell 10 x 1.25 or 12-1/2 lessons. Bug. Fixed an error (KriControls.ocx, version 3.0.7)
whereby the values of ComboBoxes using auto-completion could be changed by
typing even when the controls were locked. Minor. Added ability to automatically generate and
save an entire series of individual reports. Minor. Changed student plan to sort by course meeting
day and time. Minor. New sales
reports. Minor. Speed-up of "periodic maintenance" at the start of the day. Version 3.3.0 (30 September 2002) Major. Student certificates, using user-defined texts
describing the student's achievements. Major.
Create an interface for customers to manually enter payment status of bookings. Major. More new reports. Bug. Fixed a minor error in the earnings report Version 3.2.2 (25 August 2002) Major. New reports, as detailed below
Bug. Fixed an error whereby, when editing a past event
from the daily plan, drop-downs for room and teacher availability were not
updated to reflect previously changed events. Bug. Fixed an error whereby students could show up on
both renewal and extension list of variable courses. Bug. Prevent the user from closing the system while
"periodic maintenance" is being carried out. Minor. Added a date-stamp at the bottom of all reports. Minor. In the meeting planner dropdown for teachers, names of teachers within each category are now sorted alphabetically. Minor. If a teacher is on vacation, the teacher's name is
shown on a black background in the Daily Plan, when displaying by teacher. Minor. If a company name has been entered for an address,
it will be used as the first line of the address printed on letters and invoices.
This expands the maximum number of address lines that can appear to seven. Minor. Made the restrictions for the "Basic" and "Standard" logins more consistent.
Minor. If a previous booking for a student/course pair exists,
the correspondence and billing addresses in a new booking will default to
the previous values. Minor. Teachers and Standard login cannot close an event with zero participants, but must report an error. Version 3.2.1 (5 August 2002, internal release, not generally available) Major. KVS now provides a French interface, as well as German
and English. Bug. Corrected an error whereby company names did not
appear in the "Renewals" report. Bug. Corrected minor problems with semester renewals. Bug. Corrected an error whereby price and salary changes
could take effect one day late, if the system had not been run for more
than 24 hours. Minor. Added a warning if a booking is entered for a student to participate in a course, when a course-cancellation has already been entered. Version 3.2.0 (18 June 2002) Major. Revised licensing code to allow customers to
purchase individual KVS modules, and to specify how many clients they wish
to have. Note: all modules are enabled in Demo-mode. Major.
Created the concept of "users", entered under the KVS parameters
menu. Added "user" and "individual" fields to the
to-do list, so that the to-do list can be used as a simple CRM system. Bug.
Fixed error whereby in parsing the registry, that resulted in certain
locales (French, Spanish) being parsed incorrectly, causing a run-time
error when the system was started. Bug. Corrected an error
whereby the "pending administrative tasks" window showed the
number of completed tasks on the to-do list rather than the number of
tasks due. The button is now active if any task is due, and red if any
task is more than 7 days overdue. Bug. Corrected an error
whereby teachers could generate class cards for courses other than their
own. Minor. Added a warning if a new booking would place
more students in a course than is allowed by the course-type. Minor.
Corrected an error whereby the teacher control panel was positioned partly
off the screen on very small screens. Minor. Improved
error messages for problems that can occur when first creating the KVS
Registration Database. Minor. Windows provides essentially no validation when users enter time, date and number separators. Added KVS code to catch and correct some of the problems that can occur as a result. Version 3.1.6 (1 May 2002) This is the first widely distributed version of KVS/3, released at the inlingua Conference in Thun Switzerland. Earlier versions were released only to selected test sites and existing customers of KVS/2.
